New driveways go in at new homes, at additions, and where gravel has turned to mud. We form the shape, grade and compact the base, set steel and pour. The slope moves water out to the street and away from your garage.
Replacement starts with the old slab. We break it out, take it away, then look at what is underneath. Old driveways usually crack because the base was thin or the ground moved. Fixing that base is what makes the new pour last.
We also widen driveways and add extensions. A strip along the side gives a second car a place to park. RV, boat and trailer pads get more thickness, because that weight sits on a small footprint. Size, thickness and how much old concrete comes out are what move the price.
A driveway is only as good as what sits under it. We strip the sod or the old concrete, grade the dirt to slope, and compact it. Soft or wet ground gets rock base compacted on top. Compaction is the step that keeps the new slab flat.
Steel goes in next. Rebar or wire mesh ties the slab together, so one crack does not become two loose pieces. We pour thicker where a motorhome or a loaded truck will sit. Concrete shrinks as it cures, so control joints are placed to decide where it cracks.
Most driveways here get a broom finish, which gives tires grip when the road is wet. Exposed aggregate is the other common pick, with the top paste washed back to show the stone. Color can be mixed in, and some people add a stamped concrete border around a plain field. Exposed and colored driveways get a penetrating sealer after the slab cures.
